    adizero Boston

Make every run feel like race day with the adidas Boston, an ever-popular shoe that excels at everything from regular runs to tempo runs, all the way up to marathon length.

    Extra Cushioning

Featuring extra-deep stacks of midsole foam, extra-cushioned shoes offer improved impact absorption, comfort, and even performance. With modern foams providing energy return through your stride, the more foam under your foot, the bigger the spring forward. The trade-off of extra foam is additional weight and reduced ground feel. It can also be expensive to create and stabilise so much foam.

    Neutral

Neutral running shoes are designed to provide a smooth sensation without correcting your gait. They allow your natural motion to flow, while still offering a snug fit and a cushioned feel underfoot. As such, they’re ideal for runners who don’t overpronate.

    adidas

Building on their breakout success at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, when founder Adi Dassler’s spikes helped Jesse Owens to gold, adidas have become one of the biggest brands around, with the famous 3-Stripes seen on everyone from rappers to world record holders.

Known primarily for their lightweight race shoes and the legendary Ultraboost, they’re also gaining fans for their popular Terrex outdoor range.

    Overall the shoes are great

I really like the feel of the upper and they are easy to put in. I can literally do any kind of run with them and the Lightstrike foam is good for me as a heavy runner (6’2, 90kg) the foam help me reduce the impact of my strides which is exactly what I wanted after running in other shoes. Only downside I found is that the tongue is so thin and if I tie my laces too much it hurt on the upper side of my feet, and that’s not a great issue I just have to pay attention every time I tie my shoes that’s all. Other than that I pretty much like the shoes and already plan to buy another one after these are worned out

Great midsole, not so great upper

Midsole of the Boston 12 is great. A little firm at first but opens up after about 20 miles or so. Great for all paces, slow to fast. I’ve used it for tempo runs and a long run of 14 miles. The only real gripe I have is the upper. This is the most difficulty I’ve had getting my foot in a running shoe. I constantly had to adjust laces between runs to get my foot back in the shoe. For how hard it was to get my foot in the shoe, you would think the lockdown would be great. Not so. I experienced slight heel slippage and a little loose feeling in the upper. Sizing half a size down might help with this, not sure.

Very frustrating. I took this out for one tempo run and one slow long-distance run and I had quite a bit of side-to-side heel slipping issues. There's no padding in the heel area and it's not tight enough to secure my heel personally thus there's just enough space on either side that it slips a bit to the left and right side. So I had to return them. Other than that, I really wanted to love this shoe. The rods help with the toe-off, and the softer LightStrike Pro underfoot gives just enough cushioning for long runs and tempo work. Plenty of grippy Continental rubber coverage, an all-around running shoe.

Fantastic trainer with a terrible upper

The Boston 12 is a real mixed bag. I’ve put 100 miles into them across a mixture of easy running, some long runs up to 30km, and speed sessions up to half marathon pace and these shoes really perform. There’s a nice stable ride and you feel the performance when picking up the pace for speedwork. Unfortunately, Its been very difficult to get a comfortable lock-down for these and I constantly find myself stopping to re-lace them after starting my run. I have tried swapping out the stock laces and whilst this has helped this is still a problem. I’m willing to overlook this because these are a great pair of shoes but if Adidas fix the upper it would be an easy 5* across the board.

After running in these shoes for six months (rotating with another pair) I can say it has been a great running shoe for me. The shoe has maintained its comfort longer compared to other running shoes. The shoes have not exacerbated my achilles tendinitis and have alleviated the pain a bit. I get a bit more speed out of these as well. I use these as a daily trainer and enjoy putting in the miles with these lightweight shoes. Honestly, compared to other shoes, I don’t have much to complain about. This is definitely my favorite running shoe and just ordered two more pairs to begin a new rotation.

I am a traditional 2-4E width and it makes finding quality running shoes difficult. The better performing shoes seem to never come in wide widths. This is why I was shocked when I tried on the Boston 12. They were a little tight, but by far the widest non-wide size shoe I put on my feet. I’m 6’5” and 240, so most shoes don’t agree with me. They usually bottom out, but I took these on a 9 mile recovery run and my feet didn’t hurt at all. I can’t wait to try a tempo run in them, but I already love the shoe! Keep making great shoes and keep making them wide in the forefoot! Love these shoes!

Great for speed runs, not ideal for slow or gravel

After five years of consistently using the Ultraboost model, I tried this model for the first time. The sole is slightly firmer, making it highly suitable for speed runs, but it’s not the best option for slow running. If you’re an amateur runner or primarily run on gravel surfaces, the Boston model might not be a good choice due to its reduced protection. However, it is an excellent option for races, interval training, and tempo runs on asphalt. I usually wear size 9.5 in Adidas shoes, but the Boston runs a bit larger, so it’s better to order half a size smaller than your usual size.

Fairly new to running. Picked up this for tempo/long runs to pair with my NB 1080 v14 for recovery runs. Haven’t put up any high volume weeks into this shoe, but I find myself wanting to put on this pair for all my runs including the easy ones. I would say this shoe fits true to size, though initially I was concerned with the feel in the medial portion of the midsole. After a few runs it has broken in nicely and the width doesn’t bother me nor does it produce any hot spots. This shoe is a joy to run in and it truly responds to the efforts you put into it. My introduction into the running world has been a positive experience with the Boston 12 and I don’t think you could make a mistake picking up a pair.

I personally appreciated the Boston 11 as a shoe, but that firmness was legendary and didn’t seem to want to give even after I put some mileage on it. The 12s fix that issue entirely. The shoe is still a slightly firmer trainer, but significantly more forgiving than its predecessor. My only complaint is the lacing. Adidas - you had it nailed with the 11. Who on your product development team thought that the laces you chose for the 12 would work? I had it come untied yesterday even though the shoe was double knotted! I’m going to relace the shoes with a marathon knot to see if it helps, but please consider laces with better lockdown as opposed to the thin strips of slippery silk that you have chosen for this iteration.

    Painful for wider, flat feet

There is a bump in the sole in between the big and middle toe that gives me a sharp pain in my foot. I think I may have bony or flat feet, but either way my type of feet do not mesh well with these shoes. They are also a touch narrow to the point of being painful for any mileage past 8k. I've tried to wear them in, and even after 150km they are still giving me pain. I get good amount of speed with them when it's not painful, but it's not worth it, for me anyways. If you have the correct foot type, these shoes could be a dream, but unfortunately they didn't work out for me. I've worn and loved every iteration of the Boston series shoes since the Boston 5s, and sadly this was the first time they didn't work out for me.

Best running shoe I have owned

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Been using Ultraboost for years, but the steady weight gain in the shoe has made it too heavy, with the Ultraboost lite it addressed some of the issue of weight but now the design is not to my liking. I researched the revamped Bostons which had mixed reviews, until the 12. Having purchased a pair of Boston 12 I have to say they are the best running shoe I have ever used. They are light, snappy and comfortable. They are great for long runs and speed work as well. A great allrounder for people who like running but are not too serious like me. I will even use these for my half marathon I am training for. The only slight issue is the upper is not that weather proof but they are very breathable. Fit is good but i size up half a size

Woah! The previous iterations of the Boston have been underwhelming to say the least--this one shatters expectations and has easily become one of my go to daily trainers! What's not to love about that generous portion of Lightstrike Pro/energy rods/Lightstrike 2.0 foam midsole sandwich bolstered by that Continental rubber outsole?! For my foot, the fit was a little looser than other Adizero offerings, but I opted for my 1/2 size down and was happy I did! Put some respect on this newest version of an Adidas classic--absolute BANGER of a shoe!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought as a budget pair of racing shoes for my next marathon. I've only put about 25 miles on them so far but they seem to be great. I've run roads and some packed dirt and gravel forest service roads and the traction is great. The midsole seems to be breaking in nicely and each run feels better than the last. My only gripe is that they seem to run about 1/2 size large and the laces do bite into the top of my foot with a runners knot unless I tie it just loose enough. Other than that I think they'll be great and serve me well next month.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I think this may be the most improved shoe ever. The Boston 10/11 to this?!? Such a huge improvement. The upper being the most improved. I did an 8 mile tempo run in the 80 degree August heat and my feet didn’t sweat and ounce. If I did that in the 10 or 11, my dogs would be cooked. The midsole is responsive and cushy which are two words you would never use for the 10 or 11. I just want to pick up the pace with these on and looking forward to put more miles on them. I might even race in them in the fall because I like them so much.

I bought this as a training shoe, in which did exactly what i wanted it to do. The responsiveness of the padding and plastic was perfect as i felt like it was very light and very responsive without having a carbon fibre plate. the shoes upper feels quite plasticky which i prefer and also after breaking them in it honestly just feels like a sock and your feet don’t overheat and feel too wet. it’s a very good shoe and i recommend it for beginners and intermediate runners as i’d say after 150km it starts to break a bit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The fit is great and the color is perfect . I purchased a half size larger for comfort. I was nervous about this shoe because of mixed reviews. I decided to try it out. I wore this shoe for a 16 mile run in Chicago and it felt amazing! The shoe gave me an extra bounce and support that I needed. The interior cushion was everything. The style and color coordinated well with my run attire. This will be my running shoe for the 2023 NYC marathon. I'm excited to see how it holds me up on the streets of NYC! Lets goooo!

    Great Update

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a fan of the Boston 11 (2 pairs 1150 miles). With version 12 Adidas made the exact changes I hoped they'd make. I won't rehash them here but the biggest improvement is the update to Lightstrike 2.0. The Boston 12 has a Goldilocks midsole - not too firm not too soft. The new midsole and energy rods make for a peppy shoe. Like other reviews I found they run large. If you are an in-between size, definitely go down a half. The upper is not plush but I never saw the need to add weight to a shoe upper.

The Boston 12 is much better than my last experience of the line which was the Boston 7. Lightstrike Pro coupled with lightstrike 2.0 and carbon/glass fibre Energy rods 2.0 make for a serious comfortable casual shoe or a fast workout and long run shoe. Stability is fantastic too, making the shoe feel light on the foot and deft during runs. This feels more like a v1/2 Vaporfly yet at half the price and with a much more durable, typically Germanic build. Very attractive shoe in some colourways too.

This is my fifth pair of Boston’s but the 2nd pair that has caused significant rubbing and blisters on the top of my big toes on both feet. There seems to be something on the inside that is quite sharp and over time becomes extremely painful. Not ideal for training and hopefully feet recover well during my rest week. In the mean time I’ll swap back to a different model. Only seem to have issues with this model, never had issues with any of the following; SL, SL2, Evo SL, Adios 5-8, pros 3 /4

I ordered online and made the mistake of going up a half size. Width is great, but have a thumb and a half extra length at the big toe. A little hard to lock down and prevent heel slip. After my first run, I got some wrinkling on the upper that won’t go away. I tried the runners loop which helped, but laced a little too tight and ended up with some foot pain. Still trying to figure things out, but happy with the look and the cushioning. Now waiting for the Takumi Sen to get back in stock!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Shoe is very nice. Firm at first in the mid/fore foot area and needs some break in miles. I would suggest leaving them in your warm car for a day or two, that really made a difference for me. Felt like it soften up some and I got more bounce to my runs. Grip is fantastic as well and the heel is extremely soft. I wanted to rate the Shoe 4.5 stars, but I can't do half's on the rating system so I opted for 4. Great Shoe, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this purchase.

I ordered my regular running shoe size and the fit is great. At first I got slight rubbing on the tongue that was solved with simply retying the shoes after the first run and loosening the lace above the top of my foot. These shoes are so much fun to run in and are a perfect pairing for the Adios Pro 3. I do my training tempo and long runs in the Boston 12 and then use the Adios Pro 3 for races and they compliment each other very well. I’ve put about 150KM in the Boston so far and they continue to get more comfortable. These are a huge update from the Boston 11 that just felt way too rigid and took forever to break in, after my second run in the Boston 12 I could already feel the sole softening and was pushing the speed and distance. Would easily recommend this as a trainer to prepare for your next upcoming race.

I HIGHLY suggest going down half a size. I usually wear size 11.5, and I tried both size 11.5 and size 11 at the store, but they felt the same. However, when I ran with the size 11.5, my heel would slip, causing a lot of pain. The next day, I returned them and got a size 11. When I took them out for a run, they felt great. The shoes have a bouncy feel similar to the Vaporfly, but they are slightly heavier. However, I feel like they provide more stability.

Big improvement in rub issues from the Boston 11.

I've enjoyed the Boston series since discovering them 2 years ago. Comfortable foot support and impact for long runs. However, the Boston 11 heel stitching rubbed my tendon raw and I could only use them with moleskin pieces. Which I essentially had on my heels for most of running season. 1 run without could leave me bleeding. A very stiff design of the tongue on the Boston 11 made for annoying on/off. I swore I wouldn't purchase another pair, despite liking the performance, the comfort was abysmal. I am glad to give the next edition Boston 12s a try. Fixed both of the issues I disliked in the 11s. This shoe is now in my top favorite runners I've ever had. Let's hope they don't mess it up again in future generations. My 11s lasted far longer than most previous shoes, so I'm hoping these can also remain good for a solid 400+ miles.

Very comfortable. Best running shoes I've ever used. I run in these Boston 12 for the same mileage as my previous shoes and feel less fatigued while making faster average mile per hour. They're worth every penny. My feet are normal/not wide, and these are perfectly sized and true to size. Those with wider feet might want to size up. My gait is normal with slight supination, and these sneakers provide the right amount of support. Very highly recommended.

Bought these shoes on July 5th and this is how they look now picture below... i feel other shoes last more than these, the upper material is fragile, I feel the cushion part has been great for daily runs, so I like that part but the upper material in the toe area is wearing, I even have to cut my nails really good and close or is it just an issue with this model, the previous version seems to also have a design issue/flaw and Adidas has not fixed it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A very comfortable, lightweight, responsive trainer. A bit hard to get into given the collar design, and the lacing eyelets/tongue are a little fussy, but get past those and the ride is near perfect. Always feel ready to snap to a faster pace and a great place to be as the miles add up. I have not tried them in colder weather. The ventilation and cooling are excellent through a Houston summer. Might be breezy in the winter months/cooler climates.

    Terrific All-around Training Shoe!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I sized down, but the resulting fit is perfect for me. I normally run in a mid-to-lower drop, neutral shoe with wider toe box, and prefer a mid-to-forefoot targeted shoe with rocker geometry. Adopting the Boston 12 for my training rotation has been a great fit. It handles easy runs well enough but performs exceptionally well at tempo and long runs. I’ve paired them with the Adios Pro 3 for race days and am more than happy with the transition.

Sure, you could have a rotation of 2 or 3 shoes for your different workouts. You could also just get Boston 12 and be done with it. Important part: Fit is true to size in my experience. Heel lock is OK, midfoot is a little narrow but feels secure and the forefoot is roomy which I appreciate as someone with a slightly wider foot. Only major complaint for me would be that the lacing system is strange so the shoe can be annoying to slip into.

Adizero Boston 12 Shoes Review The Adizero Boston 12 shoes are beautifully designed and look great right out of the box. However, while the fit was perfect on my LEFT foot, I encountered an issue with my RIGHT foot where the shoe felt too tight. It's a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to running in them, but I will give it another try with another pair. Overall, they have potential, but the fit might not be consistent for everyone.

    Road Running

It might say road, but we don’t just mean pounding closed-off streets on race day. Road shoes are predominantly for the pavement.

They feature flat rubber traction for confident footing in the city and enhanced cushioning to soak up the strain of every stride.

    Best for Tempo Runs

Tempo runs are a type of training that involves running at a higher pace than normal for a shorter session, and, as such, Tempo shoes are built for fast training.

They’re designed to offer both speed and durability, hitting a sweet spot between lightness, energy return, and comfort.

You can expect them to soak up more miles than your race day shoe and offer more speed than your daily trainers.
