Nike Air Max 90, 95, Moto 2K & More

An Air Max 90 and a Dn8 might share the Swoosh, but they're very different trainers to wear. One comes from Nike's early-90s running archive, with a compact shape and familiar heel cushioning. The other uses a completely different Air system, with pressurised tubes running beneath the foot. Across the men's Nike Air Max range, the choice goes well beyond colour. The shape, upper construction and cushioning all change depending on the model.

Nike Air Max 90, 95 and Plus

The Air Max 90 remains one of Nike's most recognisable trainers. Its stitched overlays, TPU details, Waffle outsole and visible heel Air unit have stayed remarkably close to the original design. There's enough structure through the upper to give it a substantial feel without the bulkier profile of some later Air Max releases. Nike has even brought its football history into the mix, with Air Max 90 editions drawing on the original Mercurial and Hypervenom boots.

The Air Max 95 has a character of its own. Designed with the human body as inspiration, its layered side panels and visible cushioning in both the heel and forefoot give it a more pronounced shape. The Big Bubble editions bring additional attention to that original Air Max design, while the Air Max Plus takes a different route with its distinctive wavy upper and Tuned Air cushioning. All three have a strong place in Nike trainer history, but their construction and proportions are worth comparing before choosing.

Air Max Moto 2K, TL 2.5 and Dynamic Air

Nike's running archive has plenty more to offer. The Air Max Moto 2K uses a layered mix of textile and synthetic leather, with metallic detailing, a foam midsole and visible Max Air cushioning. It has the technical appearance of a 2000s running shoe, particularly in the silver and grey colourways associated with that era.

Air Max TL 2.5 goes back to the late 1990s, pairing sweeping lines across the upper with full-length Max Air cushioning. The newer Air Max Dn8 introduces Nike's Dynamic Air system, using eight pressurised tubes across two Air units from heel to forefoot. It's a different approach to the more traditional Air Max cushioning found in the 90 and 95, and another option for anyone interested in Nike's more technical footwear designs.

Finding the Right Men's Nike Air Max Trainers

Fit deserves as much attention as the model itself. A padded Air Max 90, a heavily layered 95 and a mesh-based technical runner can sit differently around the foot. Check the individual model's sizing information, particularly if you're moving between Air Max families for the first time.

Materials make a difference too. Mesh generally offers more airflow, while leather and synthetic overlays provide a more structured upper. Black Nike Air Max trainers remain an everyday favourite, while white, grey and metallic silver colourways bring out the distinctive panels and Air units.
