ASICS Trail Running Shoes
The ASICS Trail range - from Gel-Trabuco Max to the Trail scout, which shoe suits your needs best?
With more and more shoes being launched every week, it can sometimes be difficult to know which shoe is best for you. Today we are taking a closer look at the ASICS trail range and trying to work out which shoe will best suit your own specific needs.
Whether you are looking for protection, durability, speed, or comfort, there will be a shoe out there for you, probably several depending on what sort of grip you need.
The ASICS trail range, at the higher price point at least, is split into two different categories. The Trabuco series is designed to offer protection and cushioning, for a comfortable, durable ride across the trails. The Fuji series are lightweight and offer excellent flexibility, ideal for soaring across uneven terrain at speed.
Prices From: £140
All about protection and cushioning, the Trabuco is a rugged and comfortable shoe that provides excellent durability, grip, and protection. The ASICSGRIP traction is ideal across solid and loose surface trails.
It features FF Blast midsole for improved responsiveness, complemented by GEL cushioning in the heel. An adaptive support system reduces stress on the foot while a rock plate offers further protection underfoot.
Gel-Trabuco 11 GTX
Prices From: £150
With a new and ingenious layer of Gore-Tex in the upper, the Trabuco GTX offers a much more flexible and lightweight waterproof layer than seen in previous Gore-Tex shoes. If you are often splashing through puddles or running in the rain these might be the shoes for you.
Gel-Trabuco Max 2
Offering the same protection and durability as the Trabuco, the Max offers a much deeper layer of FF Blast midsole cushioning, for improved comfort over longer distances. It also provides improved energy return for a more efficient adventure.
Like the Trabuco it features an ASICS grip outsole, a rock plate, and protective overlays.
Prices From: £105
Coming in at £35 less than the standard Trabuco, the Terra offers the same protection and cushioning, but with a rubber outsole that offers highly durable traction instead of the ASICS grip found in the previous shoes.
A full length FLYTEFOAM midsole is paired with rear foot Gel to provide excellent traction and shock absorption. The seamless upper features protective overlays, while a rock plate improves underfoot protection. Engineered lugs offer excellent off-road traction.
For only £90 you wouldn’t expect to get the same technology as the top price models, but you do get a protective, and versatile trail shoe that is built to excel over a range of ground types.
The grip is road-to-trail, designed so that you don’t need to change shoes as the tarmac ends.
Rear gel aids the cushioning, while stone guard protection across the toes helps durability.
Gel-Sonoma 7 GTX
Prices From: £105
Like the Gel-Sonoma 7, but with an additional Gore-Tex waterproof lining in the upper, the GTX version lets you hammer wet trails and cruise through bad weather.
Prices From: £70
With an accommodating forefoot fit, excellent shock absorption and great cushioning, expect to be surprised by the comfort on offer from the Gel-Venture 9, especially from a shoe costing just £70.
The trail specific outsole also offers durable traction on concrete, so you can explore urban and rural trails alike. Gel technology in the heels helps to soften every step for long lasting comfort.
Trail Scout 2
Prices From: £55
The cheapest shoe in this selection at only £55, the Trail Scout provides support and grip and features an injection EVA midsole for a cushioned feel. An internal heel counter gives improved support.
Whatever trails you run, from mountain treks to woodland sprints, there is a shoe in this range to suit your needs, so enjoy the great outdoors with the right kit, and make the most of each adventure.
