Part of a special range designed to commemorate the 1999/00 UEFA Champions League winners, the adidas Originals Real Madrid away shirt evokes images of a legendary squad that featured global superstars like Raul, Manolo Sanchis, Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf and Steve McManaman. After a dominant performance in the first group stage of the 1999/00 UCL, Real Madrid struggled through the second group stage as runners-up to a dominant Bayern Munich, losing 4-2 and 4-1 to the Bavarians along the way. They were held at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their knockout tie against defending champions Manchester United, but Raul scored a two-minute brace at Old Trafford to secure progress to a semi-final against that intimidating Bayern side. This time, Real were able to get the better of their German rivals in the home tie, avenging their previous defeats with a narrow 3-2 aggregate win over the two legs. For the first time in the Champions League’s history, the final would be contested between two teams from the same country – Real Madrid and Valencia. Steve McManaman’s legendary scissor-kick volley characterised a dominant performance from Madrid, and they coasted home to a comfortable 3-0 win and lifted La Octava.
