The season itself is best remembered for the Blues’ FA Cup run, which saw them make their first appearance in the FA Cup Final for 24 years. Despite losing out to Manchester United on the day, finishing as runners-up was enough to qualify for the next season’s Cup Winners’ Cup, an achievement that helped kickstart the modern era of the club.
