The shirt's perhaps best remembered for Clive Allen's exploits in the 86/87 season, when the predatory striker scored 33 league goals, four FA Cup goals, and 12 League Cup goals for a club-record total of 49 across the three domestic competitions. It was an era of total football for Tottenham Hotspur, with manager David Pleat employing an attack-minded five-man midfield. Hoddle, Ardiles, Waddle, Hodge, and Paul Allen, with Clive up front on his own to put the inevitable chances away. Powered by Allen's goals and many more from the supporting cast, they finished third in the league, reached the final of the FA Cup, and the semi-finals of the League Cup.
