The Netherlands drew the Republic of Ireland in the Round of 16 and comfortably brushed the underdogs aside with goals from Bergkamp and Jonk. Their win set up the most eagerly awaited fixture of the World Cup, between two of the tournament favourites – Holland vs Brazil. Romario and Bebeto handed the Selecao a two goal lead, putting Dick Advocaat’s side at risk of elimination, but another fantastic Dennis Bergkamp goal brought the Oranje back into the game. Aron Winter levelled the scores from a corner, before an incredible long-range free kick from Branco broke Dutch hearts and sent the Netherlands home.
