Nike Womens Zoom GP Challenge 1 Osaka PRM Tennis Shoes

Dominate like Naomi Osaka with the Nike Women’s Zoom GP Challenge 1 Osaka PRM in Black/Racer Blue-Bright Crimson and draw strength on the tennis court from the fighting spirit of a dragon and the composed aura of wildflowers.
Inspired by Japan’s first ever Grand Slam singles champion, these asymmetrically designed trainers bring together the power and good luck of a mythical dragon on the right shoe, and calming wildflowers on the left. These trainers use Nike Claybreaker technology – strenuously tested on red-clay courts across Europe in multiple weather conditions – to enhance traction and prevent buildup on clay courts. A wide traction pattern helps you to control slides and a strong plastic midfoot plate offers stability for quick cuts and added power when transferring energy from side to side. The webbing around the eyestays combines with the plate to offer a “hugged” containment when making dynamic movements across the court. Synthetic material around the lateral side helps keep your foot contained when moving side to side, while extra rubber in the toe area adds durability where it’s needed most, with high abrasion rubber along the outsole delivering enhanced durability and traction for a long-lasting wear. Underfoot, a forefoot Zoom Air unit adds a spring to your step while a heel Zoom Air unit provides support. In fact, the whole heel is designed to enhance rocker-like movements -such as pulling back for a serve. Elsewhere, the padded collar and tongue gently wrap your ankle in plush comfort for a soft feel with every step.

Nike

Ever since their first entry into tennis footwear back in 1973, Nike have set the trends that define the shoes we see on-court to this day.

Bringing colour and attitude to a sport famed for its formal dress codes, the Swoosh shook up the establishment in the 70s with some inspired designs and endorsements, signing up first Ilie Nastase in ’73, and then, in 1978, John McEnroe.

Confident and uncompromising, McEnroe was the perfect partner for Nike as they grew their influence in the game, particularly thanks to his personal championing of the classic Air Trainer 1 in the 80s – a shoe that likely wouldn’t have seen the light of day had he not insisted its prototype be developed into a full design.

After McEnroe came Agassi, Courier, and Sampras. All three had some superb shoes that pushed the boundaries for technology as much as looks, with Agassi’s Air Tech Challenge and Sampras’s Air Oscillate featuring industry-leading engineering, just as Federer and Nadal’s shoes have in more recent times.

Rafa’s signature shoe, the Zoom Vapor Cage, remains available today with its winning combination of performance and durability, while Naomi Osaka’s Zoom GP Turbo follows in the footsteps of Serena’s Flare in leading the way for women’s footwear. Elsewhere, check out the NXT range for the latest tech-focused designs, or if you prefer something simple, lightweight, and comfy, the Lite collection has you covered.

Clay Court

Clay court tennis shoes are specifically designed for optimal performance on clay surfaces. These shoes feature a full herringbone tread pattern on the outsole, which provides superior grip on the slippery clay surface, while also allowing the right amount of slide that clay-court play requires. This pattern also prevents clay from clogging the grooves. Additionally, these shoes are built to offer excellent lateral support for the side-to-side movements typical of clay court play. Enhanced durability is often a design focus as well, due to the abrasive nature of clay courts. Choosing clay court shoes can significantly improve stability and performance.

Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka, born in 1997 in Japan to a Haitian father and Japanese mother, is a powerful force in women's tennis. Known for her aggressive playing style, she's particularly strong on the hard court. Osaka garnered worldwide attention by winning the US Open in 2018, defeating Serena Williams in a memorable final. She went on to secure multiple Grand Slam titles, confirming her status among the sport's elite. Besides her on-court success, Osaka is recognised for using her platform to advocate for social justice issues. Her impactful statements, combined with her tennis prowess, make her an influential figure in the sport.
