Anti-Clog football boots are a newer innovation designed to resist mud and maintain optimal performance in wet, muddy conditions often found on natural grass pitches. Traditional boots can become clogged with mud, which weighs down the player and reduces traction. Anti-Clog boots feature a specially treated soleplate that prevents mud from sticking to it. When exposed to water, the treatment creates a lubricious layer, stopping the mud from clogging the studs. This technology keeps the boots lighter and maintains better grip during play in difficult conditions, improving player performance and reducing the risk of injuries.
Soft Ground Football Boots
Soft Ground (SG) football boots are designed for use on wet and muddy natural grass pitches where extra grip is necessary. These boots are characterized by fewer studs on the outsole, which are longer and usually removable. The long, often metal, studs penetrate deep into soft ground, providing excellent traction and reducing slippage. SG boots often feature a mix of metal and plastic studs in a 6-stud or 8-stud configuration. It's important to remember that these boots are specific to soft ground conditions; using them on hard ground can lead to discomfort and increased risk of injury.

Ground Type Guide
Selecting the correct sole plate for the surface you are playing on is crucial, not only for the performance and longevity of your football boots, but also to avoid the risk of injury.
Using an outsole that isn't designed specifically for the surface on which you are playing may cause premature wear and/or damage that will not be deemed as a fault of manufacture and will prevent the retailer accepting them for a refund or exchange.
Soft Ground
Soft Ground is used to describe natural grass surfaces that are wet and muddy and require the most aggressive traction. Boots made for soft ground (SG) often have removable, replaceable screw-in studs and typically come in a six-stud configuration (4 at the forefoot, 2 slightly longer at the heel).
Soft Ground boots may need their studs tightening before first use. Always make sure your studs are secure before you step out on the pitch.
