First Look at the Nike Pegasus Plus
Nike have recently released a new shoe, and that is always big news, with the Nike Pegasus Plus they have bought extra speed to their daily trainer range.
Introduction
It might be the Nike Pegasus Plus in name, but the Plus is actually the rebirth of one of Nikes most missed shoes over the last few years, the Nike Pegasus Turbo. Launched in the same classic colourway as the original, with that famous forefoot stripe, Nike couldn’t make it more obvious that they have rebuilt the 2018 original if they wrote the name Pegasus Turbo across the shoe… which they did, check out the sole. The new name looks like it designed to fit with a future plan for Nike and their updated road range, but if this is a rebuild of a classic, why did people love the original so much?

History
The original Pegasus Turbo took the ethos and silhouette of Nikes' famous daily trainer and updated the midsole. Combining the React foam from the time (this was before ReactX) with, what was then, brand-new technology in their ZoomX peba based foam. The result was a faster and lighter shoe that could still be used every day.
Since then Nike have re-introduced the Pegasus Turbo name, but the ecologically minded Pegasus Turbo Next Nature is made from recycled scraps of ZoomX not the pristine quality used elsewhere.
Closer Look
Let’s start with the standout upper and the 2018 call back, bold stripe down the front. I loved it back in the day, and I love it now, it looks different from the rest of the crowd without looking like it’s trying too hard. If the original red and grey colourway isn’t for you, we have an alternative style for both men and women (see above), with other colourways coming later in the year too.
The upper is getting rave reviews for its looks as well as its construction with an internal band and highly breathable build. In the midsole it differs from the original by going for a full ZoomX foam midsole the whole way through. The result is an even lighter and faster feel that is suited to a more modern time. With no plate, and less than max stack of foam, you get a flexible, nimble shoe with plenty of ground feel.
Conclusion
In a time of max stack monsters and plates, the Pegasus Plus feels like a throwback in more ways than just the rebirth of a legend.
With the mighty Pegasus as a base, the beloved Peg Turbo as an inspiration, and a responsive midsole of ZoomX underfoot, this is definitely a welcome - retro-feeling - step forward.
