First released in 1987, the Nike Air Max premiered some specific innovations that would later pop up again and again. Designed by the up-and-coming Tinker Hatfield, who had only been with Nike since ’85, the original AM was looking to push boundaries with brand-new Max Air cushioning and an architecturally inspired design.
