Kookaburra Kahuna Junior 4.1 Cricket Bat

Experience the next generation of cricket with the Kookaburra Kahuna 4.1 Junior Cricket Bat in Green/White, as endorsed by the dynamic powerhouse that is England’s Jos Buttler.
Originally developed in collaboration with Ricky Ponting to suit his dynamic style of play, the Kahuna now has a new partner: England powerhouse Jos Buttler. Buttler’s input in the design of the bat has resulted in a few slight alterations to better suit the modern game. A slightly higher spine combines with big edges that extend further up the and down the bat, while the already minimal scalloping has been reduced to give an even fuller profile. The recognisable feel of the Kahuna with its significant bow and lightweight pickup remain, as does the curved face that Ponting used to love so much. So you can still hook and pull at will, in addition to producing all the outrageous shots Buttler demonstrates with regularity in T20 games. Kookaburra’s stickers for 2024 are clean and minimalist on the front to let the quality of your play speak for itself. On the back, modern asymmetrical graphics show off series colours.

By far the biggest Australian cricket brand, Kookaburra are responsible for some of the most popular bats in the history of the game.

From 90s classics such as the Bubble to Ricky Ponting’s favourite, the Kahuna, Kookaburra bats are ingrained in cricket culture around the world.

It’s easy to see why: not only are their bats of exceptional quality, they also have particularly classy branding, combining clean, modern styling with iconic colours and logos. Anyone using a Kookaburra bat inevitably looks good at the crease.

The Melbourne-based manufacturers have been in business for well over 100 years, originally under the name of company founder AG Thompson.

A saddler and harness-maker by trade, Thompson immigrated to Australia in 1888, set up shop in Brighton, and was quickly faced with a significant threat to his livelihood: the rise of the automobile. Seeing a decline in the demand for his usual wares as a result, he turned his leatherworking skills to making cricket balls. As a nod to Brighton’s native wildlife, he called them “Kookaburra”.

Aided by his sons, AG slowly but surely turned Kookaburra balls into a global brand. Eventually, the Kookaburra name became so well known that they’d use it for all their sporting goods, including bats, with the switch becoming official in 1990.

They remain a family-run company to this day, with multiple generations of Thompsons still involved, maintaining the focus on quality and craftsmanship that’s served them so well for so many years.

Grade 4

Grade Four bats often have more than half the blade made up of red wood or prominent natural “butterfly” staining. They’re made from good quality willow and perform well, but typically have fewer grains and more pronounced knots, blemishes, and specks. Many Grade Four bats feature bleached willow, which makes marks less obvious and gives the blade a cleaner appearance.

Please note that these are typical characteristics. While we work closely with our partner brands to provide the best bats for you, we are unable to guarantee a specific number of grains or the overall appearance of the willow on individual bats.
