Kookaburra Ghost Junior 5.1 Cricket Bat
Since its introduction in 2015, the Ghost has developed a reputation as one of the most terrifying sights for bowlers around the world. Now, with some slight tweaks to its formidable profile, it’s become an even scarier proposition. An increased bow, thicker edges, and a lower sweetspot combine for huge shotmaking potential off the front foot – massive sixes ahoy – and yet, somehow, the overall weight of the bat is slightly reduced, meaning you can wield it with greater freedom.Kookaburra’s stickers for 2024 are clean and minimalist on the front to let the quality of your play speak for itself. On the back, modern asymmetrical graphics show off series colours.
Kookaburra
From 90s classics such as the Bubble to Ricky Ponting’s favourite, the Kahuna, Kookaburra bats are ingrained in cricket culture around the world.
It’s easy to see why: not only are their bats of exceptional quality, they also have particularly classy branding, combining clean, modern styling with iconic colours and logos. Anyone using a Kookaburra bat inevitably looks good at the crease.
The Melbourne-based manufacturers have been in business for well over 100 years, originally under the name of company founder AG Thompson.
A saddler and harness-maker by trade, Thompson immigrated to Australia in 1888, set up shop in Brighton, and was quickly faced with a significant threat to his livelihood: the rise of the automobile. Seeing a decline in the demand for his usual wares as a result, he turned his leatherworking skills to making cricket balls. As a nod to Brighton’s native wildlife, he called them “Kookaburra”.
Aided by his sons, AG slowly but surely turned Kookaburra balls into a global brand. Eventually, the Kookaburra name became so well known that they’d use it for all their sporting goods, including bats, with the switch becoming official in 1990.
They remain a family-run company to this day, with multiple generations of Thompsons still involved, maintaining the focus on quality and craftsmanship that’s served them so well for so many years.
