With over a century of history behind them, Admiral are one of Britain’s most storied sport brands. While the company’s origins go back to 1903, it was in 1914 that founders Christopher Cook and Harold Hurst made their business official, when the pair opened a small factory in Leicestershire and were commissioned to manufacture clothing and hosiery for the military in support of the First World War effort. This partnership resulted in their first foray into sportswear, crafting exercise garments for the Royal Navy, which proved the inspiration for the “Admiral” name.
In the 1970s, Admiral became a fully-fledged sportswear brand, outfitting the British & Irish Lions on their tour to New Zealand, producing the first replica football shirt for Leeds United, as well as striking a deal to make England’s kit for the 1974 World Cup. The likes of Manchester United, Spurs, Southampton, West Ham, and multiple international sides soon followed, as Admiral continued to grow their reputation on a global scale.
Fast forward to 2000 and Admiral became the official supplier of the England Cricket Team, with their kit being worn during the historic 2005 Ashes series. South Africa and the West Indies also wore Admiral kits during the 00s. Today, in addition to top-class bats and equipment, they produce full ranges of teamwear for sporting enthusiasts of every level to enjoy.
