For regular team sessions, school football and coaching, training footballs are usually the place to start. They are built for repetition and regular use across the week. Match footballs move the focus towards touch, flight and consistency for competitive games, with higher-spec versions sitting closer to the balls used at professional level. Football size matters too. Size 5 footballs are the standard full-size option for adults and older youth football, while size 4 and size 3 footballs cover younger age groups. For junior players, getting the right size first makes passing, shooting and close control much easier than simply handing them the biggest ball available.
