Maverick Lakes Trail Run 2026: Tash's Race Day Recap

Tash had planned to run the ultra at the Maverick Lakes Trail Event. Heavy rainfall overnight left parts of the course flooded, forcing Maverick to cancel the two longer distances and move runners onto the half marathon route instead.

Not quite the race day she had prepared for.

Tash has joined us for several Maverick events over the years and has been part of the PDRC community for a long time. A seasoned trail runner and keen hiker, she headed to the Lakes kitted out in adidas trail footwear and DO running apparel.

With the original race plan gone and plenty of water still left on the course, we caught up with Tash afterwards about the route, the conditions and how the kit held up.

Maverick Lakes Trail Event 2026

Tell us about your day at Maverick. How did you find the event, the course and the overall atmosphere?

"As always the Maverick set up was great, the atmosphere was buzzing at the start and throughout, despite the last minute change in course distance. The route itself was stunning and very well marked."

The conditions looked pretty rough. What was the weather like out on the course, and how did it impact your race?

"Fortunately, the weather on the section of the course that went ahead wasn't too bad during the run, we were lucky! However, previous weather meant some heavily flooded and slippy sections which meant slowing down a lot!

"Adapting to conditions is a huge part of trail running and is what makes it more interesting and fun."

How did the shoes perform across the different terrain and changing conditions?

"I think I must have been one of the only people that didn't fall over! The lugs on the shoes did their job and kept me upright all day despite the slippy and flooded conditions, and they were super comfy and responsive on the flat sections too!"

How did the clothing and accessories hold up throughout the day?

"The DO shorts in particular were a fave of mine, they stayed put the whole way with no rising up or chafing and great pockets too.

"The vest was also great, the perfect amount of storage for the distance and not too bulky either, and helps that it looks great too."

What advice would you give to runners taking on a trail race in similar weather conditions?

"I'd say just go with the flow, slow down where the terrain is slippy and technical and make sure you're prepared for the weather to change!

"No PB is worth risking safety, enjoy what the day has to throw at you!"

What was the toughest part of the day?

"One of the descents, down from Stickle Tarn, my legs took a battering from the stairs! And they felt like jelly for the rest of the race, definitely something I want to work on improving in the future."

What was your favourite moment or highlight from the day?

"I actually loved crossing the overflowing rivers, it was a great chance to cool down and also added an extra layer of memory to the race."

Anything else you'd like to mention?

"Just again, no PB or distance goal is worth risking safety! Maverick absolutely made the right call cutting the two longer distances short with the conditions.

"We still had an amazing day as usual, and thanks so much for having me again!"
