New Team. Same Richmond Blue.

New Team. Same Richmond Blue.

The 2026/27 football shirt season is properly under way. Inter have brought out the pinstripes, Dortmund are making the case for long sleeves and Valencia have gone all pink with their third shirt.

Now AFC Richmond are in the mix.

Nike have unveiled a new home shirt ahead of the first season for Richmond's women's team. It keeps the club in Team Royal blue, adds University Red and Sundown through the details and puts the greyhound back where it belongs.

Ted Lasso is returning to take charge at Nelson Road. New team, same Richmond blue.

Richmond Join the Best Shirts of 2026/27

A lot of the best football shirts this season have known when to leave things alone. Corinthians have relied on a strong crest and a classic white base. PSG look like PSG again. Chelsea's blue and gold home shirt has been given room to breathe.

Richmond's new home shirt works for much the same reason.

The Team Royal base carries the design, with red and yellow bringing the colour around it. Nothing gets in the way of the badge and there is no giant graphic fighting for attention. From the stands, it looks unmistakably Richmond. Up close, the warmer details give it enough character to feel new.

The Stadium shirt is made with Nike Dri-FIT fabric and comes in men's, women's and kids' versions. Light, comfortable and clean enough to wear well beyond matchday.

Royal Blue Has Seen a Few Things

Richmond supporters have been through plenty in these colours.

There was relegation against Manchester City, promotion sealed by Dani Rojas from the penalty spot and a late title push that kept the club in the conversation until the final weeks. Everton eventually fell after a 60-year wait. Wembley was less kind. West Ham remains West Ham.

The women's side now gets to add its own matches to that list. Ted returns to lead the team, Rebecca Welton has backed the move and Nelson Road has another side to get behind.

For a first home shirt, there is already plenty behind it. The new team inherits the badge worn through relegation and promotion, the colours carried back into the Premier League and a support that knows a football season rarely follows the sensible route.

The squad will make the shirt its own. Richmond have given them a good one to start with.

From Nelson Road to Everywhere Else

The AFC Richmond football shirt leads the new Nike collection, but the club colours do not stop at the replica kit.

Game Royal and University Red cotton T-shirts keep things simple, while matching Club Fleece hoodies cover evening fixtures, long journeys home and the section of the football calendar when every concourse feels several degrees colder than the rest of London.

Then there is the red-and-blue Richmond scarf. Above the head before kick-off, around the neck once the temperature drops and usually in one hand when the referee has seen something nobody else in the ground has.

The non-replica pieces will be exclusive to Pro:Direct in the UK, including both T-shirts, the Club Fleece hoodies and the scarf.

A Very Good Start

A first season brings enough unknowns. At least Richmond have got the shirt right.

The royal blue is familiar, the greyhound sits proudly on the chest and the red and yellow details give the new team something that feels fresh without cutting it loose from the club's past.

Among the best football shirts of 2026/27 so far, AFC Richmond deserve their place.

The new Nike AFC Richmond football shirt and UK-exclusive clothing collection launch at Pro:Direct Soccer on 1st August.
