Marcus Rashford Quickfire Questions

Marcus Rashford does not need much warming up. One minute he is talking music, the next he is choosing between UK and US rap, then suddenly he is deep in Mercurial history, old R9 boots and the Cristiano Safari pair that still gets a nod from proper boot nerds.

We put Rashford through a quickfire run of football, boots and life around the game. What boots does Marcus Rashford wear? Nike Mercurial, and he calls it his favourite boot, the one that has felt most comfortable since he can remember playing. How many pairs does he go through in a season? Around 10, although he says he would happily keep one pair like players did back in the day. His favourite Mercurials from history? The original R9 blue and silver pair, plus the Cristiano Safari boots. Serious boot taste.

There is plenty away from boots too. First song in the morning? Right now, Mans Malone. UK or US rap? UK at the moment, usually US. Walkout song? Nothing fixed, just whatever fits the day. Karaoke? He admits there is probably one somewhere, and his initiation song was Eminem's Mockingbird. Best mate in football? Jesse Lingard gets the shout. Teammate most likely to answer for a million pounds? Jesse again, although Rashford says he would not bet a million on anyone answering. Fair.

Then the lifestyle questions start moving. Best dressed player in football? Jules Koundé, with a nod to the French lads generally. Air Max or Air Force 1? Air Force 1. Best present he got growing up? A football from his auntie every Christmas, the kind of present that makes sense when you are the kid who would rather be outside than stuck indoors. Matchday food? Pasta, rice, anything with carbs. Down time? Call of Duty, a few episodes of From, and dinner late enough to feel more Barcelona than Manchester.

It ends where it should: the England shirt and the World Cup. Rashford says the feeling of playing for England does not change, and that there is nothing bigger than going to a World Cup with a team carrying quality, expectation and the chance to win. Then, because every serious football interview needs one properly unserious finish, we asked whether a plane could take off on a treadmill. Watch the full quickfire above and see where Rashford lands.
