Kylian Mbappe's Nike Boot History
Nike has already shown us the next Kylian Mbappe Mercurial. Gold, impossible to miss and presumably even louder once it meets white socks and the Bernabeu lights.
That pair can wait. First, we are going backwards, from a red-and-white Hypervenom at Monaco to a Mercurial archive now deep enough for Nike to start sampling it.

2017: The Monaco Hypervenom
Before the Superfly collar became part of the Mbappe silhouette, there was the Hypervenom.
Nike marked Monaco's title-winning season with a red-and-white Phantom III DF iD in the club's colours. Mbappe was 18, scoring in the Champions League and playing with the calm of someone who had missed the nervous-youngster stage entirely.
The boot disappeared quickly. Mbappe did not.
2018: Rising Fire and Golden Touch
Rising Fire placed Mbappe among Nike's next generation, complete with custom branding and two gold stars. A few months later, France won the World Cup and he collected the first Kopa Trophy.
Golden Touch followed in Pure Platinum and chrome. By then, Nike was no longer introducing Mbappe as Mercurial's future. He was already taking up space at the front.
2019: Bondy Dreams
The signature story properly began with Bondy Dreams. Grey and green came from his hometown, 93 marked the postcode and gold recognised France's World Cup win.
It was personal without feeling overworked. You could understand the boot by looking at it, which is probably why it still stands up so well.
2020: Mbappe Rosa
Mbappe wanted the original Vapor Rosa after seeing Franck Ribery wear it, but his parents made him earn the boots through good school reports.
Nike later brought the pink back on a Superfly carrying his own name. Somewhere, another child was beginning the same negotiation at home.
2021: Chosen 2 and Mbappe Flames
Chosen 2 paired Mbappe with LeBron James, placing the Superfly 7 beside the LeBron 18. It confirmed that Nike saw him as more than another football signature athlete.
Mbappe Flames needed less explaining. Bright colour, fire graphics and absolutely no interest in being subtle. It looked brilliant from a distance, which was where most defenders saw it.
2022: Roots and Mbappe Generation
Roots made Mbappe the first player to receive a signature colourway on the Air Zoom Mercurial. It moved between the Air Jordan 7, Paris and Afropop without worrying about where football ended and everything else began.
The Generation Pack PE returned to France, adding tricolour details to the metallic Generation Pack. He wore it while scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup final. France lost, but the boot left with a story most colourways never get near.
2023: Baltic Blue, Goal 201 and Superfly XXV
Baltic Blue looked like someone had drawn a Mercurial into a comic panel. Huge Air Zoom lettering wrapped around the upper, backed by illustrated details and enough movement to wake up the whole boot wall.
Nike later marked Mbappe becoming Paris Saint-Germain's record scorer with a custom pair for goal 201. The Superfly XXV followed, placing him at the centre of Mercurial's 25th anniversary.
2024: Air Max Plus and Light Laser Orange
The Air Max Plus Mercurial brought the TN's cage lines and gradient look onto the pitch. It was part football boot, part trainer collector's problem.
Light Laser Orange arrived with Mbappe's move to Real Madrid. Bright, digitally disrupted and impossible to lose against the white kit, it suited the scale of the occasion without trying too hard to explain itself.
2025: Air Max 95, Grand Purple and Melon Tint
The Air Max 95 crossover kept Nike's trainer-to-pitch run going, but Grand Purple carried the better idea.
Details from Rising Fire, Roots, Bondy Dreams, Rosa and Flames returned through the heel, Swooshes and smaller graphics. Mbappe had been around long enough for Nike to start sampling his own back catalogue.
Melon Tint went in another direction, mixing warm orange with turquoise and carrying the line: Sans risques il n'y a pas de victoire.
Without risk, there is no victory. Fair enough when your job involves running straight at two centre-backs and waiting for one of them to panic.
2026: Plum Eclipse
Plum Eclipse was the difficult one. Brown, taupe, silver and electric lime sounded like too many ideas, but the liquid-metal finish pulled them together.
It looked better the second time than the first, then better again the third. Every good boot needs at least one pair like that.
What comes next
Now gold returns, a colour that has followed Mbappe through Bondy Dreams, World Cups, scoring records and the move from Mercurial prospect to the player the line now seems to orbit around.
Nike has shown us the next pair. It does not have a public name yet, and the full story can wait.
