Leather football boots feel soft, shape around your foot and improve with wear, but mud, moisture and direct heat can leave the upper dry or stiff. The Pro:Direct Essentials Leather Care Kit helps keep smooth leather supple and protected.

What Is Dubbin?

Dubbin is a wax-based leather treatment that helps condition smooth leather, keep it supple and add a light layer of water resistance. On football boots, it is useful when the upper starts to feel dry or firm after regular wear.

It will not make your boots fully waterproof, and more is not better. A thin layer is enough to feed the leather without leaving the striking surface greasy.

Clean Your Boots First

Remove the laces, brush away mud and wipe the upper clean with a damp cloth. Clean around the soleplate and stitching, then leave the boots to dry naturally.

Never dry leather football boots on a radiator or with a hairdryer.

Apply the Dubbin

  1. Make sure the leather is clean and completely dry.
  2. Use the foam applicator to apply a thin layer of clear dubbin.
  3. Work it gently across the leather and the areas that crease during play.
  4. Leave it to absorb.
  5. Buff away any excess with the brush or microfibre cloth.

Use less than you think. The leather should feel soft, not greasy.

Which Boots Is It For?

Use the dubbin on smooth genuine leather only. On mixed-material football boots, apply it to the leather sections and avoid synthetic panels, knitted collars, grip elements, laces and soleplates.

Do not use it on synthetic leather, suede or nubuck.

How Often Should You Use It?

Clean your boots whenever they are muddy, but only apply dubbin when the leather starts to feel dry or firm.

A light treatment now and then is enough. Clean them, dry them properly and never leave them wet in the bottom of your kit bag. Small habits, but exactly the sort of thing the Football Boot Obsessed notice.
